Player characters

Player characters are the party. They have their own section in each campaign, apart from the compendium, so the people at the table can follow their own stories.

Add a character

Open Player characters and choose Add player. Only a name is required. You can also add:

  • The player who owns the character.
  • Class, species and origin. Some game systems use their own words for these, and you can type a custom value.
  • Pronouns, aliases and a description.

Owners and members can add and edit characters. When an owner sets up a campaign, the overview lists which players still need to create a character.

The character look

A character look is a full-body picture that RealmBinder uses as the visual guide for generated images of that character, so they look the same from scene to scene.

  1. Open the character and choose Edit look.
  2. Fill in the character details and any extra visual details. You can add reference images of your own.
  3. Choose Generate character look and refine it until it is right.
  4. Choose Approve character look. A look is only used once it is approved.

From an approved look, RealmBinder can paint a portrait. You can also upload your own avatar picture instead, and drag it to choose what shows in square frames.

Image generation can be turned off for a campaign; see Campaign settings and import.

Status

A character is Active, Inactive, Retired or Dead. Inactive means not currently being played, with the option to return later. When you mark a character as retired or dead, you can add a short line about why, or generate one from the latest note.

When a session note suggests a status change, such as a character's death, it waits for someone to accept or dismiss it.

The character page

The character's page shows their profile, background, the sessions they appeared in and images from the story. Use Generate story to write a short account of the character's journey from the session notes, and Rewrite story to refresh it after more sessions.
