The compendium

The compendium holds an entry for each person, place and thing your story has met. RealmBinder creates and updates entries from your session notes, so most of it fills in as you play.

Categories

Entries are sorted into Characters, Adversaries, Locations, Items, Factions and Quests, plus Other for anything that fits none of them. Player characters show here too, and have their own section; see Player characters.

Open Compendium to search entries by name or description and filter by category.

Add or edit an entry

Owners and members can create an entry by hand with New entry: give it a name, a type and an optional description. To change an entry, open it and choose Edit entry from its actions.

Use Edit aliases to add other names the same entry goes by, such as a title or a nickname. Aliases help RealmBinder recognise the entry when a note uses a different name.

What an entry page shows

  • Overview: a summary written from the session notes that mention the entry. It is written the first time an owner or member opens the entry; use Regenerate summary to refresh it after new sessions.
  • Connections: linked entries, the notes it appears in, linked lore pages, and where it is on a map. Use Add link to link a note, another entry or a lore page by hand.
  • Player notes: short comments that owners and members can add about the entry. They also feed future summaries.
  • Images: a cover, an avatar, and scenes generated from the summary or added by hand.
  • The date the entry was last encountered or mentioned.

Quests

A quest has a status: Active, Completed, Failed or Abandoned. Change it on the quest's page. When a session note suggests a status change, it waits in the quest's history and on the Review page until someone accepts or dismisses it.

Duplicates and merging

The same character can end up with two entries, for example when a note uses a nickname. Open one of them and choose Merge with another entry, or select several entries in the compendium list and merge them. You choose which entry to keep; the others are removed.

When a note introduces a name that may be an existing entry, RealmBinder asks rather than guessing. See Review suggestions.

Deleting

Delete an entry from its actions menu, or select several in the list and delete them together.

Who can see entries

Every member of a campaign sees its compendium. Viewers can read entries but not change them. See Campaign roles and privacy.
