Adding session notes

Session notes are the record of what happened at the table, and everything else in a campaign is built from them. Owners and members can add notes. Viewers can read them.

Three ways to start a note

In the campaign, open Notes → New session note and pick one of:

  • Write it yourself: paste or type your own notes.
  • Transcribe a recording: upload audio of the session and review the draft written from it.
  • Guided interview: the Chronicler asks questions about the session and writes the note from your answers.

Some of these depend on the workspace's plan. A locked option links to billing instead of starting.

Unfinished work is listed under Pick up where you left off, including recordings in progress, interviews and drafts.

Write it yourself

Add a session title and date, then the rough version of the session. Names, events, clues and loose fragments are all fine. Under Party, choose which player characters were there.

The draft saves as you type. When you are done, choose:

  • Save original to keep your text exactly as written.
  • Rewrite with AI to turn it into readable prose. Your original text is kept alongside the rewrite.

Either way, RealmBinder then links the people, places and things in the note to the compendium and looks for quest and status changes.

Transcribe a recording

Upload an MP3 or M4A file of up to 1 GB and six hours. Keep the page open until the upload finishes. The page shows how much transcription time the workspace has left this month.

After the transcript is ready, RealmBinder:

  1. Asks you to check names it heard, such as a character name it may have misheard.
  2. Asks about details it was unsure of. Choose an answer, write your own, or select Not sure.
  3. Writes a draft for you to review. Use Did we get anything wrong? to correct it in your own words, then Create session note.

Transcripts are private: only the person who uploaded the recording can view them. Add the party's player characters before you upload, so names are easier to match.

Guided interview

The Chronicler asks what happened, one question at a time. Answer in your own words. When it has enough, choose Generate note. You can also generate early with the details captured so far, or start over. An interview you leave is kept as a draft to continue later.

Drafts from AI assistants

If you use RealmBinder from Claude or ChatGPT, the assistant can write a session note draft. It is not part of the campaign until you open it, check it and save it. See AI assistants.

Change a saved note

Open the note and choose Edit note to change the title, date or text. A note with a rewrite has both an Original and a Rewritten version.

To change one passage, select the text and choose Revise. Write an instruction or pick a preset such as Make shorter or Improve wording, preview the suggestion, then apply it. Revise note does the same for the whole note.

The note page also holds its cover image, session images, linked entries and Player notes, short comments that owners and members can add about the session.

Review suggestions

A saved note can suggest a new quest, a quest or character status change, or that a new name is the same person as an existing entry. These suggestions are not applied until someone accepts them.

Accept or dismiss them on the note itself. When any are waiting, Notes shows Review suggestions, which lists every note that needs a decision.
