AI assistants

You can connect an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT to RealmBinder. It can then read your campaigns and, when you ask, draft session notes and add to the compendium and lore. It connects through MCP, an open standard for linking assistants to other apps.

Connect an assistant

  1. In RealmBinder, open Integrations → AI assistants from the sidebar.
  2. Copy the MCP server URL.
  3. Add it to your assistant as a custom connector or app named RealmBinder. The page has step-by-step instructions and links to the official setup guides for Claude and ChatGPT.
  4. When the assistant asks you to sign in, sign in to RealmBinder and choose the campaigns to share.

Custom connectors depend on your assistant's plan and workspace settings. On a team account, an owner of that account may need to add the connector first.

What an assistant can read

An assistant can list your campaigns, search them, and read session notes, compendium entries, lore pages and player characters. It only sees what you can see in RealmBinder.

What an assistant can change

If you can edit a campaign, the assistant can, when you ask it to:

  • Draft a session note. The draft is not part of the campaign until you open the link the assistant gives you, check the draft and save it. Drafts also wait in New session note under Pick up where you left off.
  • Add or update compendium entries. It can write descriptions and add aliases. It cannot create quests, delete entries or change an entry's name or type.
  • Add or update lore pages. It cannot delete a page, change who can see it or choose the Lore overview.
  • Add or update player characters. Ownership, images and status stay in RealmBinder.

Before changing an existing record, the assistant reads it, and a change is refused if someone else edited the record in the meantime. Writes are limited per hour and per day.

If your role in a campaign is viewer, an assistant can only read it.

Review what assistants changed

Integrations → AI assistants lists each connected assistant with its last activity and Recent changes by assistants, each with a link to what changed.

Choose campaigns and disconnect

Each connected assistant lists your campaigns. Turn a campaign off to keep it from that assistant. Campaigns you create or join later are included automatically.

Choose Disconnect to remove an assistant's access completely.

For campaign owners

A campaign owner can stop all members' assistants from using a campaign. Open Campaign settings → AI & Generation and turn off Allow connected AI assistants to use this campaign.

Accuracy

An assistant works from what RealmBinder returns, but it can still misread or invent details. Check its drafts and edits before relying on them, as you would any generated text.
